As long time QWiz.Me! users know, we set out to build a training app in the style of Kumon. Incremental/ Adaptive learning. Practice to achieve mastery. But that isn’t the right style for all students. There are students that want to get to the same goal (say be a wizard at Spelling Bee), but believe they are ready for the test.

Everybody should set goals. However, what a lot of people do not understand is that the kind of goals you set could have a significant impact on your long-term performance.

While I originally developed QWiz.Me! as a training app to supplement my children’s academic program by automating afterschool worksheets, I recently interviewed a user who uses QWiz.Me! in an afterschool situation. I thought I would research the home school environment and share some lesson for parents who might be in the same situation as me.

Homeschool is the place where children are trained by parents or a parent without the outside influence or interference of the school system.

A customer recently compared QWiz.Me! to Kumon. The user said it was a “better Kumon”. My kids have attended a variety of afterschool programs and while we haven’t tried Kumon itself, we have known people who swear by it.

Let me start with a quick introduction about Kumon. Kumon is a personal tutoring enterprise. Kumon is a mathematics and reading educational technique which is practiced in franchised Kumon centers.
